Highlights: Syntagma Square, Acropolis, Symposium Wine Cellar
Starting point: Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Starting time: 09:00 amItinerary
Our tour begins in Syntagma Square, the heart of modern Athens, as you will meet your guide at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a cenotaph dedicated to fallen warriors and one that is always guarded by Evzones. Just like locals, we will hop on the Athens Metro, walk past modern art exhibits and ancient statues decorating its corridors and quickly reach the Acropolis station.
Upon exiting the Metro we will pass by the hill where Paul the Apostle spoke to the Athenians, while the imposing sight of the Acropolis is on the horizon. Home of the Parthenon, dedicated to Athena–the Goddess of Wisdom and Patron Goddess of Athens– the Erechtheion, Temple of Athena Niki and the Propylae, the Acropolis is,deservedly so, one of the most recognizable monuments the world over. As we walk the sacred grounds of the birthplace of democracy, you will find yourselves being immersed in the world of Ancient Greece, imagining life in a world vastly different than ours and seeing yourself as part of it. Luckily, the final part of the tour is designed to show you exactly what that would look like.
Ending our tour of the Acropolis, a private car will be waiting to transport you to the Symposium Hall. This Greek ancient wine cellar, is meticulously designed to imitate the feasts of Ancient Greece. In the Winemaker's Hall, the atmosphere is reminiscent of the throne chamber of King Minos, father of the Minoans, the first European civilization. Drink wine from Kilikas -the special glasses used by the Minoans), eat delicacies that were commonplace in Ancient Greece and learn everything the process of making wine in antiquity. Fulfilled in body and spirit, you will hop on your private car and be driven back to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier for some well-earned rest, or if you are up for it, to continue your exploration of Athens at your own pace!
